Fire in wrong spot

I was grilling some supper tonight and noticed the auger was not turning. The food was done so after eating I proceeded to take the cover off to see if I could tell what went wrong and this is what I found:

From the looks of the front panel I would say this probably isn't the first fire that's been in there. I'll be in touch with Cookshack Monday but thought maybe those who own a 1000 might want to check theirs before they have a fire.

If it isn't clear in the picture, there's a build up of sawdust on the ledge. After cleaning I fired it up and everything seems to be working like it should so I'm thinking maybe the smoldering sawdust tripped an overheat protector? The only thing not working is the green auger indicator, I never look at that so it may have been out before today.
