Make dried beef as below. Shred about 6 oz of sliced beef.

Make cream sauce:

1 1/2 cups cold milk
1 Tbsp melted butter
6 Tbsp Wondra or equiv flour
1/4 cup heavy cream

Stir together and microwave until boiling, stopping to stir every minute.

Mix in dried beef and continue to microwave at simmering for another 5 minutes, stirring every minute. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Serve over split biscuits or toast.

That seems to depend. My father-in-law recalls it being made as above when he served his country in the Army Band circa 1961. But, they probably ate a bit better in the band mess than out in the field. When this topic comes up, he always wonders how hungry they must have been to eat creamed hamburger.
