Does anyone else smoke onions? Chop up a bunch of onions, load them into a wire-mesh basket, and smoke for 1 or 2 hours. These things are great in anything you want to add a smokey flavor to. They also make a great base for BBQ sauce.

Yes, I usually smoke onions, and other veggies as well. After smoking the onions, saute' the onions with mushrooms, butter and a little balsamic vinegar for a real good flavor for steak and hamburgers......you can eat this for breakfast in your omellete !!!

That sounds great, too. What else do you put in it? Is your recipe posted?

I smoke my onions whole.

Take a large onion, remove the outer papery skin the way a pitcher rubs a baseball, and stick it in the smoker for an hour to 3 hours.

Real easy and no prep. Make plenty, at our table most eat more than one.

90proof; Any temp. Bake them like a potato.

They are cheap and easy. Full of moisture and nearly impossible to dry out.

The turkey was great and a big surprise was the flavor of the onions. I quartered and onion a put it in the cavity. When the turkey was done I tried a piece of onion and it was great. All my children loved them too. They were sweet and had a flavor that differed from any other way we've cooked the before.

We don't eat them whole; we cut them up and use a fork.
