i have just recently started my own bbq sauce business..Eight Flags Sauce Co...right now i have only the mustard based sauce available, but i do have a sweet red sauce recipe all ready to go. this sauce company is legit with the state of florida and i also have a federal tax id #.
i have it in several local shops and it seems to be doing well....already had two repeat case orders... this is my question...a local bbq resteraunt is under new ownership and i was referred to him to try my sauce...the new owner is a former employee of another resteraunt about 50 miles away...i tryed some of his sauce and it is very weak and a kick off of his former employer...he tried some of mind and he really liked it alot...he wants me to make a 2-3 gallon batch for him to put on his table with my labels on the squeeze bottles that he uses...he also said a great possiblity exists for over the counter sales of my sauce in the 12 oz. bottles that i carry...i plan on guarding my recipe closely and would like some comments from any...also what to charge for my recipe and the labor to make the sauce per gallon...i believe it is an excellent way to get great exposure for my sauce and to also jumpstart the red ANY COMMENTS AND IDEAS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATE!!!! e-mail---beachpiratefla@hotmail.com thanks, dave |

Figure out what it costs you per oz, then with simple math you can have a price for any size portion. You should already have a cost card done for the 12oz bottles. If you need a blank cost card let me know and I will send you one.

Dave,
That's great! I'm glad your sauce is a hit! I don't know how to price sauce. I seem to underprice things, but I always add $1.00 to each serving now. So don't shortchange yourself! The folks still like it even though it costs $1.00 more. I haven't heard any complaints. In fact, I think when you charge a bit more than what you would spend for the same thing, people buy it quicker. I hope you'll be coming to Callahan. Jack and I would love to meet you. Peggy |

Can't advise you, but don't forget the quantity discount, and labor and packaging savings from bulk orders. Essentially, selling wholesale to a restaurant vs. retail to a customer. Good luck!
I've got a multi-purpose curry sauce/marinade that I've been giving some thought to bottling and would love to get your input on the best way to go about it. Drop me an e-mail when you have some time. |

congrats on the company, i hope it soars into the great wide yonder, for ya. i often have folks wanting to buy my sauce by the gallon. i sell it, for 15 dollars. cost about 6 dollars plus labor to make. i would love to do a sample trade with you. i will send you mine, you send me yours..... we have three kinds..... mild tomato, hot tomato, and....."yeller rocket fuel" does your company bottle other sauces for other people, or just your own recipe? |

Dave,
We've had requests for a mustard sauce at the farmer's market. There is a market for it in N. Fla. I love mustard sauce, too. We're working on one for us. 2 tired Greyhounds....SMOKIN!!!! |

Peggy, Jack. Did you try my mustard sauce? It's free for the "tweaking" if you want. Just give me a little mention when you become famous.
