I SMOKED A BOSTON BUTT A COUPLE WEEKS AGO, IT WAS ONE I GOT FROM SAM'S. I SPLIT IT AND SMOKED IT FOR ABOUT 18 HOURS BEFORE I GOT IT TO 190 DEGREES WHICH WAS GREAT WHEN I PULLED IT. MY QUESTION IS, I AM GOING TO DO TWICE AS MUCH THIS SUNDAY AND WAS WONDERING IF I WOULD NEED MORE TIME FOR IT TO GET TO THE CORRECT TEMPERATURE OR WHERE IT PULLS LIKE THE LAST ONE.

No you dont add the weight together. Try to buy 2 butts close to the same weight. You should have a temp probe in each one. Then take each butt out when it comes up to temp. I question as to why you split the first one? I dont recognize that term or reason.

I did two boston butts over christmas reason and they took just over 18 hours, total weight was around 15.5 lbs. No need to adjust. And I do question what you mean by splitting it? Was is the sams club 2 pack?

Bob: Yes it was a sams club boston butt and they are a two pack. I would never split one of my own accord. So if I put one butt on a seperate rack I should be just fine. Thanks. Please let me know.

Mike" That is my go by name.

1, 2 or 3 butts, all being equal weight will not changed the time to complete. Smoker doesn't care about how many as it compenstates for temperature.

Mike - Yes you can put them on the same racks if they fit or on seperate racks. If you go seperate racks put the biggest butt on the bottom rack fat cap down and the smaller above it fat cap up.
