I looked through some of the archieves and found a couple of recipes for a rub to put on a pork butt, but thought I would ask if any of you have a recipe that you particularly like. The Smokette was delivered about 20 minuts ago, yipee.

Try injecting it. That will also add flavor. Good luck.

Nah, go with one that sounds good. I don't have any recipes on PB 101, but I'll add some, but I don't have them ready today.

Whatever rub you use, grind it up a little finer and sprinkle it over the pulled pork. And the finishing sauce in PB101 gets rave reviews here in the forum.

Good luck, it'll come out great.

If you need it quick, find whatever seasoned salt product you have around.

Pour some in your hand and taste it.

Add as much peppers for heat as you like.

Add brown sugar to balance the salt and heat.

Put all you can get to stick, on the butt.

You can't overseason it.

Put in cooker.

Tom said " You can't overseason it." I have found that to be so true. When I first started smoking both me and the Mrs skimped on the spices figuring to would be over-powering. Not So! Load that puppy up. We have found, though, that you can overdue the heat so you might use caution there.

Also, there are several rub recipes in the favorite pork butt rub section. Might want to take a gander.

Let us know how this first smoke turns out! Big Grin

I'm still learning how to navigate around in the Forum and find things. Will take me awhile.

I'll add some seasoning when I take it off and tear it apart -- then, we will apply vinegar sauce when we eat it -- which is going to happen about 30 minutes from right now.

I reported the final results under the topic: Question about Holding Pork Butt in Cooker. If you want to see the end result, please read it there. Thanks for your help. I'm very happy with the Smokette. I just need to practice and keep learning.
