My F-I-L got me some kind of maple. I'm not sure if it's sugar or silver maple. Are there any differences in either to make it better or not so good for smoking? Thanks. Rick in CO.

In my experience, all varieties of Maple, with the exeption of Swamp Maple are good for smoking. All will produce Maple Syrup but Sugar Maple has the highest concentration of maple flavor.

Rick,
Just be sure your wood is cured and dry.
