I have posted here for the past few years, and have enjoyed the information we have shared with all of you in the USA and beyond. I know we have many members on the Gulf Coast, and I just want to say our hearts and prayers are with them and their families. Lets take a moment this holiday weekend to remember all of these people, and perhaps make a donation to our citizens in need.

Dave,

Well said. The people in the affected states need OUR help, and need it bad. I personally contributed $100 to the Red Cross today. You never know when you may be in need, so help out the folks who need the help today.

Let's see what other members have contributed - i'm sure the Cookshack Community could come through in this time of need.

Perhaps Cookshack the company could match or donate a percentage of the toal proven donations from forum members? How about that for a challenge?

It has been wild down here. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. Just got power and phone back. Many are still without.

Our four neighbors and us are going to have a post-hurricane party soon. The Cookshack will be working overtime.

Amen to the above! We have 59,000 evacuees here in Arkansas and more on the way. Our National Guard armories are full as is Fort Chaffee over near the Oklahoma border. It's unbelievable the amount of love and support our communities are giving. Several of the churches in thhe area are serving hot meals daily and there is no shortage of supplies. Everyone seems to be giving til iit hurts and then some. Say what you will but when there's a true emergency in the good old USA, our people unite.

God bless America!

Richard,
Any opinions on taking that Route on I-20 to get to our place in FL? we are going to drive down in about 2 weeks are afraid the motels will be full of workers etc.So thought maybe it woudl be wiser to take I-40 further East to TN or so and then go South.
Does anyone else have words of Advice as some of you have been traveling around to Contests?

KathyE,I know that all motels in LA,MS,AL,FL,are probably are booked up until at least november from what the local news is saying.they are packed with workers,& all kinds of families that are now homeless due to the storm.you could also check with one of them hotel.com sites or call them to see about avialability in the areas that you will be traveling.hope this helps

I'd stay with I-40 and come on down towards Birmingham,Atlanta,I-75 down into Fl.

We stay off I-95, J-ville to Daytona, because of construction.

Come down through Orlando, towards Ft. Pierce.

You ought to stop by the Jack Daniels championship in TN on your way down. Hotels are full, you'd have to stay in probably Nashville, but it's worth a pass through.

I might not make it to Florida if I stop somewhere that they are making Jack. I think we will already be in Florida by then, hopefully. We may have a really rough time finding a room no matter which way we go.Normally we stop in Hattiesburg when we take the Southern route.Or push on to Biloxi. Nothing going there I am sure.I may have to call or go to hotels.com as Richard suggested.when you go an umfamiliar route you arent sure how far you will get or how traffic is around big cities.Which we try to avoid.
