My wife and I are going to be in Lake Lurie and Blowing Rock in the North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains later this month. Any suggestions for great Q in the area? Thanks

Can it be that there are really no good Q restaurants in areas around Lake Lurie and Blowing Rock or is everyone mad at me for some reason?

Have you done something for us to be mad at you?

Probably no one from that area frequents the forum and you did only post it 2 days ago.

Happens sometimes, posts don't get a response, so I thought I'd respond Big Grin

Dave, My wife and I were in Blowing Rock a couple of years back and the owner of the place where we were staying sent us to a BBQ place a couple miles outside of town. That place had the worst BBQ I've ever encountered. Boiled ribs soaked in an insipid tomato sauce. I wish I could come up with the name so you could be sure to aviod the joint. Unfortunately, at the moment the name escapes me.

South of Blowing Rock just outside of Asheville is a place called ZEBZ Barbecue. Zeb is a member of this forum and uses a CS250. I've never been there but you know his BBQ is great if he's using a CS. Big Grin If you're going through Asheville you might want to give that a shot.

Thanks TaktEZ. Think we are going to spend a day in Ashville. Isn't that where the Biltmore estate is located?

Dave, You're absolutely correct and Biltmore is well worth seeing. We've been there twice and enjoyed it both times.

The estate was originally built to be a totally self sufficient facility. As such they produced all of their own food. They even made their own wine and you can visit the winery while you're there. Some of it's pretty good too. At the turn of the century biltmore generated it's own electricity and eventually sold power to the city of Asheville. Biltmore, in fact, had electricity before the White House did.

The horse barn has been convertd into a restaurant and it's really a nice place for lunch. As you might expect it was not your ordinary barn. All brick construction, tile walls on the interior, lots of brass trim. Each stall has been converted into a booth.

Also, if you have time, take the "behind the scenes" tour. They take you to places that are not open to the public. It was really interesting.

Enjoy your trip.

I looked for ZEBZ in the yellow pages for Asheville and found nothing. I presume he is in another town. Need to know the town to be able to find the restaurant.

Dave, I did a search for ZEBZBBQ in the CS archives and was able to locate one of his posts where he mentins the name of his town as Arden NC. Here's how to get to Arden from Asheville. Apparently he's no longer cooking on the CS 250 and has gone back to open pit cooking. Oh well. Hope this helps.
