I have the SMO55 and it's a great smoker, but I have been eyeing the AmeriQue with the 18" wide racks. How can Cabela's sell it for $200.00 less than CS and I believe it ships from CS to the buyer.
I've "bought" two from Cabela's.. the first was a 008 and the 2nd was an Amerique. Got them both for "free" using my Cabela's points by making purchases using their Visa card. Their service is good.. and, of course, the CS's are great.
Cabela's will not, however, match the specials that other distributers add at times.. for instance, extra free wood.. they just supply what CS puts in the package as a normal course.
If you find the product cheaper at another distributer than Cabelas, I have found they will negotiate.. but, ya gotta work at it with Customer Service.

The picture of the Amerique with 1 door latch is outdated. Amerique has been using two door latches for over a year now. i checked with cookshack on that issue when I bought my in december 2006.

I too am a Cabela's Visa whore.
My experience with them has been very different from what you've described. I used my points to buy a digital camera last December, and they matched an online price that was about 70% of the original price. Then the cashier agreed to give me $30 off at the register for putting the order on my card, even though my discounted price was below the $200 requirement to get the $30 off, and I wasn't really putting it on my card... I was using points.
I guess that tells us one thing: Results may vary... So go ahead and try.

I didn't dicker with my first (008). When I got enough points for the Amerique, I did my homework.. just like buying a car. (vehicles are much easier because you know (very close) what the dealership paid for the vehicle, less their incentives). Anyhow, I knew what some of the other Cookshack sources were selling them for including shipping. I got that from Cabela's.. just didn't get the extra box of wood that one was supplying. It wasn't easy and took some time.. but it happened. BTW, my pre-retirement job was a purchasing agent (buyer) and some of those techniques help when I buy things.

Went to my local Cabela's 2 days ago. The only Cookshack item I saw on the shelves was a cover for the smokette, and a few smaller items (rubs, etc.). Not a single smoker on the floor.
A travesty, imo.

They can special order any of them. When I got my AQ, they were not in the catalog.. but I called Customer Service.. they got me a price.. which I negotiated.. as I mentioned above.

At this point, I would look at Charcoal Store. They have the AmeriQue at a good price and offer free shipping and a free 20 lb. wood chunk sample with the AmeriQue.
Mine just arrived yesterday, just in time for the holiday weekend! The shipper they use (R+L) gave great service in tracking the shipment and scheduling delivery.
