A friend of mine wants me to try smoking with rasberry canes/vines. I have heard of grape vines being used. Anybody out there ever use rasberry ? and how was it .

Anything is worth a try on a cheap piece of meat.. say a chicken or half of one.. even hamburger.. grin.. Try it and let us know..

Grape vines and rasberry canes are two different critters. The parts of grape vines which are used for smoke flavoring are the heavy woody portions of the vine. Rasberry canes are relatively soft and pulpy. They don't have the woody stuff to produce the kind of smoke you want and the juices will make for some pretty nasty tastes
As Smokenque says, try 'em if you like. But I'm quite sure you wont like what you get.

After seeing the canes, I will take your advice Hook, I dont think it warrants a try. Thanks for the advice, Hook, smokenque.
The woodier 2-year canes that are normally pruned in winter might maybe work ok. But it'd take quite a few to amount to anything.
