I am a newbie and because I feel that the temp probe is so critical to the performance of the FEC100, I have just taken a light bristle brush to it after every cook along with replacing the foil in the catch pan and the heat shield. I also place a small piece of foil over the little hood over the temp probe. I like the idea of the scotch brite pad, will have to also give that a try.......
I've just been informed by a tire and wheel specialist not to use green pads on wheels. He said to use blue for them to keep from scratching the surface. I got to thinking about caring for my FEC 100's and I'm in the same boat. It's winter and they need some T L C. As for the sensor, I always wipe it off before each cook cycle with a paper towel and hot water. I believe scratches on a thermocouple affects its accuracy. I may be wrong, but any variation in the surface should affect the reading it gets. What do y'all think?
