Hey guys and gals, I have had an FE 100 since 2000 ( yes one of the older models) our family loves it. I am not a comp cook but we love BBQ. Anyway the last two times I have smoked it seems the front and back are receiving a greater amt of heat. The first time i thought this was because it was a very windy day - the last time there was NO wind. - Have any of you experienced this or am i just smelling too much smoke.

Have a Great day

I think that you are right. The grease shield allows the heat to pass around it to the front and rear of the unit. This casues the unit to cook faster on the front and rear. If the meat is in the center, you won't see it. When I have loaded it fully, then it starts to show. And slope of the shield makes it hotter on the side that slopes up.
