Seems as though when I first fire it up, the temperature always overshoots the set point by 40-60 degrees. Then cools down to the set temp and smokes along just fine. Is this just normal at startup? Or is something amiss?

Using Lumberjack 100% Cherry pellets at the moment if that makes any difference.

Just wondering.

It WILL always overshoot. Just how it works.

As the temp is closing in on your desired temp, just open the door, dump some heat and it won't overshoot as far.

It's just that from a cold start, it's trying to get to your set temp as fast as it can.

If you left it alone, it would stabilize at your set temp, just might take a little extra time.
