2 FEC100 questions-Cutting down the legs/Contoller not beeping

Hi All,

I have a 2010 FEC100. Two questions.

First, I am mounting the FEC100 to a utility trailer, and I want to lower it. I am planning to cut about 6" off the legs. Has anyone done this, and do you have any tips? Also, would love to see any tips on mounting it after the legs are cut. My thought was to attach some angle iron between the legs (either bolt or weld on) and then attach the bolts through the angle iron to the trailer.

2nd questions: for the past month or so, the IQ4 controller does not "beep" when I press buttons, set the cook temp, etc. Any reason why? Just want to make sure it is not a sign of a problem with the controller.

1. Sure you can lower it, but it will have to be mounted. The center of gravity will be changing and might be prone to tipping over

2. The beeper (not the controller) might be bad. Hadn't heard that happening, so just call CS customer service on Monday and see what they say.

I have mine mounted in a 16' covered utility trailer, I took off the wheels, and had a special bottom bracket welded that matched the holes from the wheels. Sits perfectly. The bottom is mounted thru the floor, and bolted from underneath.

I used eye bolts and chains with turnbuckles to secure mine in place. They don't move!! If you wanted to drop it about 5-6 inches. Then take the casters off. Cutting the frame is going to reduce the value in my opinion. I am funny about my FEC's. Good luck with your mounting.

I had controllers changed twice, so I don't remember which one I have (67 I think), but if memory serves, it beeps when I turn it on, but not when I adjust the time and temp and again when I push start. It also beeps upon release of the reset button. Works fine otherwise.

Sounds like your getting good advice on how to lower it right. Can only say..climbing up on a trailer to tend a pit can wear old guys plumb out over the course of day or so. Smart thinking on that. I firmly believe in cooking standing on terra firma. We also dont like to bend over too much. Can get a seasoned citizen down in the back..so to speak.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I had the legs cut down (about half the original height) and re-welded the original brackets on. It is mounted with 5/16 bolts thru the trailer deck and secured with lock washers and nylock nuts. I will post some pics.
