I have a new FEC-120 that I have purchased for home use.
It had problems smoking at low temp setpoints.
If it was set on 180 Degs it would overshoot and temp would continue to creep upward. It would windup at least 30 to 40 Degrees higher than it was set to maintain.

Long story short....the solution was to change the auger motor to a lower rpm motor/gearbox.
Cookshack sent me the motor/gearbox from an FEC-100.
The 120 motor/gearbox was 2.5 RPM. The 100 is 1 3/8 RPM (According to Fast Eddy in a post on Pelletheads)

The point of this post is to let people know that the FEC-120 is a great smoker that has a problem smoking at low temp in a home setting where you might cook only a single butt.

The solution is a simple motor change. With the low RPM motor the FEC-120 is great for home use.

My FEC 120 can easily maintain temps as low as 160 Deg now without any problems. I just cooked at 275 Deg today. It takes a little longer to come up to temp, but it will cook at that temp fine, and maintain very close temp tolerances.

I'm very pleased with the temp performance now.
