New owner question | Cookshack

I purchased a used 100 this week. manufacture date 4 10 2006. When I was cleaning it out I saw air box is not sealed on the bottom edge.
This is the box that connects the fan and fire pot. Can I add a some kind of sealer or would I be better off put a cap on it?
When I took it apart it was about 50% full of ashes and junk. Is the meat probe worth having.

Tony/Bill @ CS would best answer your technical questions. Personally I don't use the probe because I cook more than one piece @ a time and they don't finish at the same time due to size, position in smoker & the individual pig/cow.

We all had them for comps,before the probes were added.Two of the four at the house have the capability to purchase and plug into the cooker.I haven't felt the need to add them.Maybe ,if I was cooking in a restaurant situation,I'd get to using a probe?

Most of that comes from the inside holes in the firepot, not the seam opening you're describing (unless it's really big).
