Many of the top cook teams in the world are at the 25 th Jack Daniels Invitational this weekend ,as they are every year .
Many of the comp schedules are halted for the season around the country.

Here is an article about the Grand Champion Teams from all the previous Jack Daniels being invited back for a "Grand Masters" comp, separate from this year's 25th Invitational.

Jack Daniels Grand Masters

Those of us that have been fortunate enough to attend the Cookshack Fast Eddy cooking school at Ponca City have had Paul Schatte/Head Country BBQ as one of the instructors and toured the Head Country Sauce and Seasoning plant, next door to Cookshack.

Paul is one of the four Oklahoma past winners attending the Master's division.

They take pride in pointing out that OK teams have the most winners. Cool

Hopefully ,Butcher's Barbecue, another of the instructors, will have the good fortune this year to be included as another of the Masters.

Yep,I figured you would pick up on Tuffy's classic training as part of his dedication.

Back before Tuffy and his father got their RV,he would sleep in an aluminum frame/plastic strap lawn chair by the firebox of his stick burner.Even in drizzling rain and high 30 degrees. We were fortunate to set up beside Tuffy at comps and when Trigg would laugh at how hard we worked just doing our job,we could point at Tuffy and laugh.

When we were all buying cases of leaf lettuce to build our boxes,Tuffy was bringing cases of parsley. He would teach Barbara how to do them with parsley, during the evenings, and we would be amazed that he would spend at least 3 hrs picking the parsley, before he even started building his boxes.

It took another couple of years ,before the practice spread.

He is one of the most polite and quiet cooks on the circuit and we all kid him about how hard the producers worked just to get him to say his few lines on the TV bbq shows. We never saw Tuffy take a shortcut or not have time for a fellow cook.

He had access to top prime meats from his real businesses and he would share them with his competitors at the cook-offs.

Now that is a real gentleman!
