I have a chance to pick up a lightly used SM008. I was wondering if this is a good unit to learn on.

Techniques and skills learned on this unit should be transferable to larger units?

Thanks in advance.

I just picked up a used 008 yesterday, did my first cook this afternoon and it could not have been easier! Resisting the temptation to peek was the hardest part for me! If you are new to smoking I don't see any reason why it wouldn't make a good choice. I trolled around the forum a bit before I made the decision so I had a general idea what it was all about. I noticed Cabellas has them for $399 so lowball them!

I have an 008 and love it, very easy to turn out great Q. Sometimes I wish I had a larger unit, but in all honesty for what I do, mostly the wife and I, maybe something for a party, it's big enough.

If the price was right I wouldn't hesitate.

Don't hesitate to purchase the 008, if it's a good deal. I purchased a 009 about a month ago, used to have an old Brinkman. I only wonder why it took me this long to discover cookshack. They are very easy to use and turn out the best bbq I have had.

Take the plunge...

No, I wouldn't buy it. But I WOULD send me the information on the guy who is selling it so that "I" can buy it!!!

You're going to like it so much you won't care what you spent on it...even retail. So, get it!
