In addition to the Thermapen. I also have an infrared, thermometer with laser pointer. I got mine at Harbor Freight Tool Co. and have found it to be almost as handy s the Thermapen. Here's the link to the product. I use it for measuring the surface temperature of a skillet when pan searing steaks or chops. I use it to measure the surface temperature of my pizza stone which I get to about 650 degrees, the surface temp of the interior of my smoker, and, best of all, I use it to amaze my grand kids. Gotta teach 'em to be careful with the laser beam though. That sucker can damage a retina by looking directly into the beam.

I know some people don't like tools from Harbor Freight but for home use I've had great luck.

Once again I'm not in any way associated with HF. I just like the price savings, especially since there's one just a couple miles from my house.

Well, at $40 I'd love it too! ...and may head out to my local HF and see if there's one with my name on it.

Also, I ordered a Thermapen, as per another thread, and it arrived today! Talk about "zoom" shipping!! (I'd been trying to figure SOME excuse to buy one, and $20 off was just the excuse I needed) In the shipment was their latest catalogue and in that was another interesting item... a double-duty Thermapen and laser heat sensor together in one gadget...$90, as I'm recalling.

Looks like I've got to tell my wife she just bought me another birthday present. She'll be soooo happy!!!
