I felt compelled to post this. I have been doing smoked steaks, smoked corned beef, and other non barbque stuff recently and it made me hungry for some BBQ. Someone suggested trying out a local joint for comparison. So I thought I would. Took my wife to a near by place and it was terrible. She got spares and I got beef burnt ends. The ribs were dry and coated with sauce, no sauce on the side. Burnt ends fatty chewy and dry. Beans were flavorless and the mac and cheese between boring and awful. Sure makes you appreciate what you can do at home. CS and the forum are the greatest. Try it yourself and see what I mean. I think I'll go make some ribs! Smiler

True. The wife and I travel a lot, before we launch out on a trip, I usually send a query to the good folks at the Roadfood forum, requesting info on local good eats in the area we are visiting. I specify 'no BBQ joints' in my request because they almost invariably disappoint me after eating from my CS for a few years. The only Q places I will try while traveling are ones recommended by the more experienced folks on this forum.
