Firefox versions 3.6.16 and 4.0 were both released around the same time. I'm use 3.6.16 and seeing nothing different from before. Are you referring to v4.0?

If you're using any add-ons like NoScript, you may need to check settings there as well.

Question. The folders here in the CS Forum still show "unread" even though I accept cookies.

Anyone know of a setting issue. It accepts the CS cookies and I'm logged it, but the folders don't update to show only recent adds.

Thanks for any help.

Russ
Thinking about the issue a little more, I should probably add my own newcomer's observations about the Read/Unread status indicators for the individual forums--and I'm including use of a couple of Firefox versions prior to 3.6.16 (minor revs released in the past month or there 'bouts).

Observation #1:
I've noticed that once logged in, the individual forum topic areas have gray or multi-color icons, depending on whether there's new content since last login. Oddly, the icon doesn't change from multi-color to gray after reading the new posts, even after "forced" refreshing the "Cookshack Forums" page listing all forum topics.

Observation #2:
Upon selecting a topic (Ex: Open Forum), all sticky threads show titles in boldface, while ALL other threads show titles non-bolded, as if they were already read. As in the 1st observation, there is no change between bold/normal after reading either type thread.

Observation #3:
The only way I've discovered to go directly to new posts without starting from the very beginning of a thread, is to select from Recent Forum Topics list from the right side of the forum.cookshack.com/eve page.

If my observations match yours, this is not a client-side cookies or Firefox add-on issue.
I used Firefox for a long time but stopped when it started acting funny on me. I remember when I first started the forum, I, too, didn't have my yellow houses and light bulbs turn white after I revisited the forum. My computer was clearing cookies whenever I shut it down so it couldn't recognize I'd been to the site earlier. There was an option you check that prevented cookies from being cleared when closing down the computer.

Now that I've reread the thread, Jerin has the answer. I believe you don't want the cookies deleted when you shut down.

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys.

It's not a forum issue, it's a browser issue. IE handles it just fine.

I'll post some photos to help.

I'm using FF 3.6

The icons should show "new" topics. I'm not sure of the forum setting, but it's a specific time, like 12 hours or something, or last visit or something.

You'll see the differences below. IE shows only a couple of new topics, FF shows them all.

I can't speak for Russ's settings, but I don't delete cookies except manually during periodic maintenance. Logging out (of the forums) may delete one or more site related cookies, but wouldn't explain the lack of change in the read/unread indicators (icons and thread titles).

I don't recognize which forum software is used here, but of all the other forums using platforms like vBulletin and other widely used forum software, my observations above are unique to this site. I may fire up a different browser to see whether the behavior remains consistent between browsers.
Okay, this old I.T. Systems Engineer can accept that one browser may work with the forum software differently from another, but gotta say I'm a still a bit mystified. I kicked off Internet Explorer (v7) to take a look and if I posted pics, the results would be the exact opposite of Russ's.

OTOH, and consistent with my earlier observations, there was still no change in read/unread status indicators after reading any thread in any (sub)forum here.

Rather than belabor things, I can learn to live with the eccentricites, but it's been an interesting learning curve f' sure.

Because it's based on time passed, not last visit. You should come back in some future time and they settings should look more like my IE picture above.

I AM an IT guy and it confuses me. That's why I stopped using FF before.
