How the Forum Works?

Welcome, Chuck.. Not sure what you mean here..

But when you post a message.. my computer says it's posting and will take you back to the forum in a moment. It then takes me back to the thread I was posting to.. I then hit the back button and it takes me back to the list of threads in, for instance, in "Open Forum". I dont' have to hit a refresh.

Smokin, same here as far as after I post a message. When I get taken back to the thread I was posting to, I then go to the top and reenter the Cookshack BBQ forum. If I hit the back button it just takes me back to the spot where I was posting.

Let me ask the question this way: Let's say I post a message (a question) and it is on my screen in front of me. I take a break and come back to see if anyone has answered. If they have, will it be there on the screen under my post where I can see it, or do I have to hit the refresh button at the top of the computer to see it? There may be some other way to make it appear, like going back to the Forum main page and then coming back, but unless I do this, it apperas I will always need to hit the refresh button.

If I understand correctly, I don't think the forum updates real-time, that is, as you're watching. You need to back out of at least that thread and maybe the forum and come back to see responses. If I'm wrong we'll know shortly...

Good to have you around Chuck. Qer is right, the forum does NOT update in real time (as your watching) so in order to see any new messages that have been posted you will need to refresh your browser or go forward to another screen or another thread. (this will take you to a curent updated screen).

Yep�I sat at the opening of the forum watching the available �threads� and nothing happened until I exited back to CS�s home page and re-entered the forum. Todd�s message confirming my suspicions had been posted. One more of life�s mystery�s solved.

After posting, just hit the back button until you get back to the list of topics or you can hit the back button once more to get back to the main forum page.

When you post hit enter and it will automatically refresh.

When you walk away, your Browser does not automatically refresh, on any page, CS or not, until you hit the refresh button.

If you hit the back button, the browser reloads the page you were last on, it doesn't refresh it.

When in doubt, just hit refresh a lot.

There are also the "new post indicators" that's the post with the yellow color. The forum sets a cookie on your machine, but it's only updated when it refreshes.

Steve, try hitting the "back" key after the software takes you back to the thread and it'll take you back to the list of threads in that particular forum. One more stroke with the "back" key will take you back to the list of forums.

I don't look for immediate answers or discussion.. so I almost never hit the "refresh" key. Looks like there are a few different ways to skin the cat.. so to speak..
