A bit out of the way for you, but the best BBQ in Maine IMO.

I ate there on my last trip to Maine and talked with the owner/pitmaster. He's a KCBS member, and a CBJ with years of restaurant experience (working his way through college) and some comp experience as I recall.

He owns a trucking company but prefers to spend his days making excellent Q. They use only native Maine wild apple wood on a big Lang smoker. He has a big CS but prefers the old school stick burner.

They fly their beef and pork in from Texas via FedEx everyday except the days they aren't open and the days they aren't open are the days FedEx does not deliver air shipments.

And he cooks shoulders, not butts...! He takes the skin off and scores the shoulders deeply in several places and applies copious amounts of rub.
