My wife surprised me with a new Smokette for Christmas. I put everything together today and got it all setup to season it. As soon as I plugged it in, within 30 seconds I tripped the GFI. I tried it a few more times with the same results. I carried it into my basement and the same thing happened. I am running a 120v, 15amp breaker and not using an extension cord. Any ideas? I have a rack of ribs waiting for tomorrow.

I have a 020 and your gonna love it.

The problem you're having is cause by a little moisture on the heating element, that is caused by the manufacturing process. I would use an extension cord and run it to an outlet that has NO GFI. After the seasoning smoke you will be able to use it on the GFI, because the element will have dried out.
