First, let me say thank everyone for all the help they've ever gave me over the last ten years. Second, I wish I could make a long story short, but I can't. OK, my last post Frank Da Tank, September 2012. I've been overseas for a bit and only smoked a couple of times between coming home on leave. The last time I smoked was well over a year ago. The smoker worked great for the majority of the time, but still occasionally, super smoked and pellets were actually burning in the hoper. This is a 2005 FEC 100. So, I recently started thinking about selling it. I had convinced myself that I needed something else. Something like a MAK or a Memphis, I wanted to be able to do some grilling and smoking. However, today while reading somewhere on this forum, I saw where a guy says that he sold his FEC 100 to buy a Memphis and that it was the worst mistake he ever did. He said he wished he would have kept it and just got a good gas grill. This got me to thinking, maybe it is what I should do too.
So; fast forward to today. Today, I did a decent cleaning on the grill. I then fired it up. It stayed on for about 3 minuites and then cut off. I want to fix my smoker, I did tell someone I might sell it to them, but after cleaning it and hearing it fired up, it made me realize I LOVE THIS GRILL! So here are my questions oh great ones:

1. Where is the fuse located, I thing thats the cut off problem?
2. Can I replace my hopper and control unit with the new shiny one?
3. If not, can I replace my controller unit with the new one?
4. I came to the conclusion that it was a fuse because I switched cords and power outlets, but please let me know if there is another idea.
5. Even though I kind of wanted another smoker, I figure that there are only so many parts on this smoker, and whatever repair parts are they can't be more expensive than a MAK 2 or Memphis; right?

I'm a little confused. Oh and welcome back I'm currently gone myself.

You say grill but the 100 is a smoker. The MAK is a grill.

Keep the 100 as a smoker and but a FEPG500 if you want a grill.

You have a few questions and I would call CS for the quick answer, especially about the replacement as it depends on some specific questions they will have.

The fuse is on the back of the control panel but it's not the problem. Once a fuse blows it won't come back on. Neither will the high limit switch that trips if the temp gets too high.

Move it to another circuit to test.
Morning SmokinOkie, yes, the unit will not come back on. That's why I assumed it was the fuse because I did change extension cords GFI sockets. Nothing, came back on after plugging it up. SmokinOkie, I was reading and looking at advertisements on the MAK 2 Star General, that stated that it could grill and Smoke. I see that I could also do this on the FEPG 500 and FEPG 1000. I just have to due a little more research. Thanks, I remember you and your comments from years ago, and have learned more from you than you will ever know!

First thing I'd check about the MAK is: Do you get a 30 day no question ask money back guarantee?

Second thing would be: Is their customer service as good or better than Cookshacks?

Let us know what you decide.
