old fe 100

i have an old fe 100 started it up today and it was running hot - had it set on 225 and it shot up to 325 in no time - put the setting on "smoke" and it shot up fast again - i never gave it a chance to level off - im thinking the thermocouple - any ideas - its the treager controls

Both of my FEC's were IQ4 boards so my comments may not apply to your case. Upon startup, they will overshoot by 20+ degrees, and normally require about 20 minutes to settle in.

Do your temps settle in eventually?

One thing to check it where the thermocouple is in the smoker. Make sure there is not a bunch of build up around it.

The thermocouple is real easy to change on those. Be sure you get the right one if its a Triegar type controller. The ones for the IQ4will not work. Also, there is an adjustment on the board that will let you fine tune the feed rate for your burn.
