I just received my smokette and tried to season the smoker as stated in the directions at 200 degrees for 4 hours with 4 oz of hickory wood ( 2 chunks). The wood chunks never burned so I did'nt get any smoke to help with the seasoning. And I am concerned about not getting any smoke at 140 degrees when I start smoking my venison summer sausage tomorrow. I need some help, does anybody have any suggestions please...
Ribman - Could you feel heat coming through the top vent?

This has been a minor issue. Try moving your wood to the very tip (the bent/looped part) of the wood box.

An extension cord can diminish the heat to the coil. Were you using one?

If that doesn't do it call CS customer service. They want you satisfied!
A thought about the 1,000 sites, is you get thousands of situations addressed, thousands of opinions about each, thousands of time frames.

Sometimes a little knowledge about too many things can complicate life.

Take things with a grain of salt, and maybe narrow comments down to folks that are on the same page as you.

Lots of experience on here, that have filtered all these sites,to come up with their thoughts/advice to steer you with your particular cooker.

Just my $0.02
Yeah man! That little Smokette is smoking now! I put 2 racks of ribs and a brisket on at 3 oclock and the smoke has been streaming out the vent hole steadily. these ribs are going to get wrapped in foil at about 6 and then cook for about another hour or so. I can't hardly wait! I put the wood chunks on top of the holes above the bend of the heating element and they starting smoking pretty quick after I turned the smoker on. Thanks everyone for
just wanted to say thank you sly2kusa,ct-q, Okie, Tried out those sites if anyone has more please add. Tom I'm not getting what you said here,or why, I asked a question. Made no "comments".So "grain of salt" and "narrow comments" is not adding up here. If I broke the rules of the forum, I did not intend to do so with the question.

I, like many folks, enjoy different sites.

I was commenting that for entertainment value ,they are all great.

For working info, they might be confusing.

I, also, have been guilty of taking many bits of info, from completely different techniques and blending them into one technique-often with less than desirable results.

Making comp chili, is often a good example.

You can go from pretty fair,to having no idea where to go next. Confused

Like wheelz says,if you know who you are talking to and what their level of experience with your cooker is,sometimes it is easier to stay on a track.

Certainly no offense taken.

Tom you hit the nail right on the head with the 1st sentence. I was looking for sites from this forum that others with your experince enjoy. I googeled before I asked and came up with over a million.I am looking for recipes, and sites that other cs owners enjoy.Already bought the Mercedes, just looking for the car shows. Big Grin So I hope nobody else has taken offense as there 1st reaction. Hope this note finds you all well.
The WSM forum, with ChrisA,is as close to the gentleman/teacher,to Smokin'Okie, as most of us have found.

Weber Virtual Bullet

It is an encyclopedia of smoking, without malice, and members MUST adhere to that attitude.

Many of the others have their own specific following.

The bbqforum is the largest, oldest?,and most widely followed by Kansas City cooks, judges, etc.

It is a wonderful resource, and fine to monitor.

You will find SmokinOkie, and many of us, there on a very regular basis.

There are some that feel a novice might be entering"maximum no rules combat" to venture into. Frowner

As you browse thru the multitude of options, you might inquire from the experienced folks on these forums,as to the relevance of many of the books, forums, videos, classes, etc.

As always, we welcome participation, whether it be to share info,or to ask questions.
Well, I'm a novice and just love getting the information from this forum. Problem is I can't get enough of it. So I've gone to other sites finding all this stuff to be quite entertaining. I agree with Tom as all the information can create overload. So I use this forum as my "bible" cause of both the Cookshack experience and trust I've gained with some of the more experienced members. Simply go to the others for some light free reading and improvement to my general "Q" knowledge which is starting from a fairly low base.
