I love my Cookshack. The sample of rubs, sauce and woods that came with the smoker were great. I was going to order more when I realized that the shipping on a $100 was about $100 as well. Is there something I am missing here? Are there shipping discounts at times? This seems a little steep.
I get most of my wood from CookShack and shipping is pricey. But it is also heavy. The folks at CookShack will be your best source of info on shipping rates.
I've been told "no discounts on shipping". You can bundle with another person to defray costs a bit. I've heard of other places that offer free shipping and bulk rate on pellets.
Wood chips and chunks (and pellets) are available on quite a few sites. One with great variety is The Charcoal Store. They also sell CS smokers, so I assume mentioning them here does CS no harm. Competition is good for everyone.
The Charcoal Store is an authorized CS distributor. I’ve purchased rubs and parts from them. Shipping is reasonable. I think 15% restocking fee on returns.
Depending on what you're looking for, check out the BBQ Superstore, Atlanta BBQ Store or Big Poppa Smokers for a variety of rubs & sauces from many different manufacturers. For wood chunks, check the Charcoal Store as was mentioned, or checkout your local Home Depot or Lowes. Western Wood chunks are pretty good as are the Weber chunks. For pellets, I've never tried the Cookshack or Fast Eddy pellets. I use Lumberjack which I can get locally for a good price and no shipping charges. Also, check you local Wally World, around this time of year they start having closeouts. Last year, I heard people were getting 40# bags of pellets for $1.
Nothing can ruin a great hunk of meat like poor quality wood.
