The rain will not take away heat from the cooker because of it's heavy insulation. You should, however protect the electronics and the smoke hole from being exposed to rain. Rain on the electronics could short it out and rain down the smoke hole... well, you can imagine what that will do. If there's water puddling around the bottom of the unit, then it's also a good idea to get the electric plug above the water level.

Place four vegetable cans on the top of your cooker, one at each corner. Put a piece of plywood or a large baking sheet on top of the cans and you're good to go.

Now, gotta give credit where credit is due. That nifty idea comes from Tom.
I have a little case/shed that my 008 sits in on my deck to keep out the weather while I am smoking. I put a curved pipe on top to let out the smoke. It works great. I talked to a guy at the local Cabelas and he smokes in a Rubbermaid tub of some sort to keep it out of the weather
