I have had my AQ for about 4 or 5 months now and WOW. All my Q is great. Cooking mostly Butts for pulled pork. Using the finshing sauce recipe and everybody thinks it is the best pulled pork ever.

My question is about cleaning. I have searched the forum and have been following the info found there. However, my AQ is starting to smell like rancid fat or grease. It has to effect my finished Q taste sooner or later!

Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong or how to clean the AQ to remove this smell.

Hi Everyone,

Discard old foil.
Racks are washed after each smoke.
Rails get washed after each smoke.
Wipe the inside of smoker with dry paper towel until the grease is gone.
If the meat touches the sides of the smoker or drips under the foil on the bottom then I wipe it with hot water on a paper towel or scape with a credit card until food stain is gone.
Put new foil.
If it still smells bad leave the door open for a few hours.
Close door put CookShack cover over smoker, ready to smoke.
Thats what I do on my Smokette, Amerique and SM150

Thank you,
Brian E.

the "smell" has to be coming from some where. If you're following the instructions and getting rid of old foil, it certainly still has to be coming from somewhere.

First time I've had someone ask about a bad smell, so bear with us if we ask what you're doing, you didn't state in the first post what you did for cleaning, so we're just asking.

Maybe you're just sensitive to the smell?

Did you empty the grease pan?
I had the same problem with my 009.

After removing the foil, taking the racks out for washing, I take a dry paper towel and wipe out the visible grease that magically appears under the foil somehow, then use a second towel slightly wetted with vinegar (I use apple cider vinegar for what that's worth) and wipe down the bottom, and the bottom few inches or so of the sides and back wall. Then leave the door open for a half hour or so to dry. It has fixed the problem.

Smokin' -- maybe it's mostly a Sunbelt region thing -- warm, humid most of the year (?)
