I have a tip and a question. Never, I repeat, never leave bus tubs in your FEC from your last comp while checking to see how fast it can go from 275 to 375. I went outside and there was rancid smoke billowing all over my patio. "Oh no!", went through my head as soon as I realized I hadn't pulled them out. I have melted plastic melted all of three racks and on the floor of the smoker. Any tips on how to get lots of melted plastic off the racks? My plan is to take a as rapper to them and all surfaces with melted plastic on them. At that point I'm going to run a full load of pellets at 420 until they run out to hopefully remove the smell. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Man that is not cool. After it cooled is it "sticky" to the racks... it may just peel off, be able to be knocked off, if it doesn't adhere to the grates. Same with the floor.

Once it's "clean" of plastic, probably a good burn out or two will get the smell out...

Keep us posted, and if you go on to win any competitions, let us know the exact procedure for seasoning your FEC with plastic...
Do NOT pressure wash the FE. You could create enough pressure to bust a seam and then the insulation gets wet.

Go with the hot cook, scrap off what you can. Take the trays out and pressure wash/clean them.

You might have to use chemicals and clean down to the stainless and then reseason, but it will take a few cooks.

Yeah, I haven't done that EXACT thing but I have done similar and let stuff in a smoker (like gloves) and fired it up.

So here's the plan. I went to BBQ Island, which is our local BBQ place that I bought the FEC, and he's ordering me new racks today. The one that the bus tubs were on would take some serious work to just separate the tub and the rack. It's not worth my time. Saturday I'm going to clean the FEC with oven cleaner and scrape it clean. I'll take wet towels and remove all of that residue and then let her run at 400 for 8 hours. At that point I feel confident that she will be clean and there won't be any residue.

You've done all that can be done...
Well, this past weekend I gave the grates to a guy that works in our warehouse the grates and $25 to see what he could do with them. They are so freaking clean it's silly. He used a chipping hammer, a chisel, a wire brush on a drill, a torch, and sandpaper to clean them. It's absolutely amazing what he did to them and how there isn't a speck of plastic or even a bit of black from the past two years of use. I'm calling them good after I broil them in the oven for an hour.
