That's a great question. I thought I would be a smart @$$ Smiler and checked the web site on what's included. All it states is 5 pounds of smoking wood. I would assume if it all looks and smells the same then it is the same. If I were to quest what type of wood it is I would pick hickory.

Did you throw in a nice fatty pork butt for seasoning? No matter what type of wood you got I'm sure you will be thrilled with the results.

Back in 2002, I got my 008 Smokette from a local independent dealer here and it came with 1 box each of cherry and apple wood, and the chili grill. He didn't say the stand was extra, it was already put together and ready when he delivered it to my back patio. All that for under $400.

Probably depends on where you get it.

I agree with Tom. I can smoke with apple and tell people it is hickory and they believe it. I find apple to be a little bland compared to hickory. Straight hickory is strong and stronger when you chop it into slivers. I prefer straight hickory on stuff for catering and apple/hickory on my personal stuff.
To me, hickory and cherry seem to be similar and oak and apple seem to be similar. I really enjoy grapevine smoke on venison. (muscadine) I really believe I could pick it out on someone else's Q. We have 3 different hickory trees here. Scaly bark, rough bark, and smooth bark. That rough bark hickory seems to be a whole bunch stronger than the other 2, with scaly bark being the most mild. Mesquite is not much stronger than rough bark hickory.
