Look what followed me home today...

I saw it on Craig's List a few weeks ago but the owner never responded to me, so I gave up. He called me this week so I went to look at it this afternoon and brought it home. It have never been used except to test it. He also included 6 bags of Nomad brand pellets and two bags of Nomad starter chips.

Any tips, tricks or cautions before I fire it up?

SWEET!!!

One modification that mine could use...put a drain hole in the bottom for grease and a catching method. I always line mine with foil, the diverter plate with the holes in it too. It's a bit easier to clean that way. Do keep it clean, with no drain system grease can flash.

Don't use long pellets, it tears up the paddle wheel.

Happy Smokin'!
Thanks. I'll take a look at a way to rig an external drip pan. The guy who i bought it from had a second one that he is still using and he had added some fender washers next to each of the holes in the back of the lid and used those for a form of temp control by opening and closing the holes.

I cooked some thick cut pork chops last night as a trial run. I set the speed control at about the mid point and had the grate in the lower position. They came out great, but I would like a little more color on the outside so may use a faster pellet feed setting next time to get a hotter fire.
