Reply to "color of ash?"

I never paid much attention to the ash either until I used the red oak. Its only got about 3 months drying time. It is split with no bark in 1-2 oz pieces, about the size of Lincoln logs. Its seems dry enough, light for its size and no moisture when split open. The ash really stood out because it was jet black. I used 2 oz of oak and 1 oz of hickory on my last batch of spares. The ribs were good, but I haven't seen ash that color before.
