I preheat my coolers as well with hot water. I wrap with plasic first then foil. At first I was concerned about the plastic melting but it hasn't been an issue at all. I also wrap each butt with a cloth towel and fill any remaining empty space in the cooler with towels as well. 6 to 8 hours shouldn't be a problem.
