I have used the following Rub from the Internet BBQ FAQ many times, and have always been happy with the results. I've attached a link - I recommend the FAQ, too

Danny Gaulden's General-Purpose Dry Rub

Amount Measure Ingredient
------------------------------------
3/4 cup paprika
2 tablespoon chili powder
1/4 cup black pepper
2 tablespoon garlic powder
1/4 cup salt
2 tablespoon onion powder
1/4 cup sugar
1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
