BBQ Allstar Showdown

I really like the show - I think you (Fast Eddy) got the short end of the stick - winning both your competitions then not being able to move on. Seemed like the judges like the filet mignon better and gave more points that week than they did for the whole hog or the butts cooked on cinder blocks. Other than the judging system, the show is good TV and I hope they do it again next year.

I too agree with the point system. All ya'll from that show didn't do well in points (because the judges knew what pork over coals was supposed to taste like) have to figure out a point weighting factor for cooker. How would you score someone with a hole in the ground vs. a FE cooker?

So Eddie, tell me about the Italian dressing, Spicy Mustard slather you used, looks interesting. What was the rub, looked like garlic.

Taped it last night to DVD. Like you idea of using only the shoulder and loin. And one of the judge couldn't tell the difference between pork loin and pork tenderloin???

And Bart cooking whole hog, that was fun to watch. I'm going to have to talk to him about that next time I see him. Use boys (well some of us) don't know much about whole hog, guess we'll need to get him some practice.

I have watched all of the shows and have really enjoyed them. It is great to watch all the different styles of smoking done by the teams and try to figure out their secrets. I would like to see the show lengthened to an hour as some parts have seemed a bit rushed. I feel that they have made the show more about overcoming adversity than cooking good Q. If they gave each team the smoker a day early to practice on this would give them more film footage and help even out the bad scores due to unfamiliar smokers - or give you more time to build your own! Also would like to see the judges separated so they can talk to the camera but not to each other. They seemed to influence each other on the bad points of some of the entries which was not fair to the contestants. I hope they will do another show as it has been good fun to watch "Survivor BBQ".

Mudgie, you make one point I like also (hey how are you anyway?)

I'd like to see the judges separated and comment to themselves, then we could see only what they think, not the group dynamics of voting. There is a lot of perceived psychological influence at work here when one judge says...I thought it was (insert a word) and then the other judge agrees?

Can you imagine them being split and then finding out they didn't agree?

Then let's let the public judge also, kind of a fan favorite. I'd sure like to party with the cackalacky boys, even though they turned in chopped pork.
