I have had my SM008 for app. 10 yrs. I tried using it today on the same circuit that I always use and I keep tripping the circuit breaker. Bad heating element?

Could be, or it might have just drawn a little moister. Run it for a few hours on a electric outlet that has no GFI and then try the old outlet and see if it's still tripping the outlet.
Cal, My Model 55 just started tripping the circuit breaker as well. How did you repair yours?
The usual treatment is right above your post. Use a non-gfi outlet and see if heating the unit up will dry it out. Assumes moisture is the problem.
I've had success by placing a heating lamp inside the cabinet for overnight or a few hours. A floodlight or incandescnt bulb works, but not LED or fluorescent - you need the heat. Alternatively, run an extension cord to a non-gfi outlet.
