I just watched Food Channel's "Unwrapped" and they said Kingsford charcoal is made from Fir, Cedar, and Alder shavings, roasted at 600 degrees, mixed with coal, and stamped into pellets. Yuck!
And make sure your lump is high quality too! I don't like lump made from milled wood scraps. Really, really like Lazzari Mesquite lump, but haven't been able to talk myself into buying a whole pallet at Sysco. Want to go halves, Fred?
Don't know Candy. You rich Delta folks can afford the fancy stuff, but here in the hills we have stick with our Ozark Oak. That toxic stuff that soaks into those old pallets before they get to the charcoal plant, puts a nice edge on Que.
