I will be smoking a 8lb pork roast and 2 3lb turkey roasts at the same time. Can i use 2 different temp. probes, one in the pork and one in the turkey. Will i get accurate but different readings on both.
nichboy, sure you can. i cook brisket, pork picnics, turkey (at times) all together. i just put the probes in each peice and away we go. i use taylor remotes that i get at target for about 17 bucks. at last count i had 7 (one each for reefer, freezer, fec outlet temp, meats 3 of those and one for the sm150. course sometimes i change em all around as needed). but get a few and then you can rest easy jack
Originally posted by Dennis-UT: [qb] I've done it too, even using the smoker probe in meat (I poked the hole first with the meat probe, then inserted the smoker probe).
Also, put the pork above the turkey. Pork fat will only make a turkey better. [/qb]
What does Emril say? "PORKFAT RULES"...sounds good!!!
If you're cooking poultry, NEVER put it above other cuts of meat. Poultry drips and the poultry "fat" leaves really weird streaks, and whether it's cross-contamination or not, I don't like the streaks.
