The smokkette burns 1 killowatt every 2 hours if it is running constantly. Here a killowatt runs about 10 cents, so the smokette uses about 5 cents per hour, but once it reaches the set temperature, it cycles on and off. I havent checked this out, but my assumption is that when it turns off it takes about 15 - 20 minutes to cool down then will run about 30 - 40 to regain the set temperature, so mine costs about 10 cents every 3 hrs, plus wood of course. Your electric bill will tell you the cost of your electric, take your total bill and divide into the number of killowatt hours you were billed for. Unless you are renting an apartment where the electric is included in the rent,, then its darn near FREE,,LOL

The 50/55 have a 1200 watt element as opposed to the smokette's 500 watt,,,,so they use just a little over twice that

Quite a bargain !!
