Hi All,

I have had my FEC100 for about 3 years. I normally always cook at 274 or 280. When I first start up the cooker (empty) it can take nearly 45 minutes before it gets up to the set temp. That seems like a long time but have never really thought about it. At a competition this last week, I was talking with some other FEC100 owners, and they said that there FEC100 will get up to 300 in about 20 minutes.

Does 40+ minutes seem like a long time from pressing start to get up to temp?

Thanks

Pete

NO!

The fec100 has a variable speed fan and it will kick up in speed as the need for a hotter fire is wanted or will even not run if the pellet feed overshoots the need for fire...so, most of the time when a fire is not running hot enough or coming up to speed fast enough, it will be an air flow problem. Occasionally ash will build up in this air shoot/chamber, which will cause a problem like the OP is having.
Thanks for the replies. Funny, my temp probe had a short about a month ago, replaced that, and then the hot rod stopped working. I have been lighting it with a touch that last 2 times I used it, and it still took nearly 40 minutes to get up to temp. I also vacumn out the pot after each cook.

It always seems to run a little cool too. I.E. set the temp at 274, and it likes running at 262, or 264.....
Is there a gap between the firepot and the box it sits in? When I replaced my cast iron firepot with a stainless steel one, it wasn't a tight fit and it took a long time to come up to temp (and couldn't hit any temp over 250)

Cookshack's low tech fix (remove the firepot, bend the metal a little, and replace it) did the trick. If your airflow isn't all going through the firepot, it will underperform.

Did you make the bend on the box or the 90 flange? Ive had similar problems but dont know where to bend.
