FEC100 Slam latches?

Anyone put on, or tried to put slam latches on their FEC100 like the bigger models have? The ones on the bigger models have a flat around the door that latch mounts to. The door on the FEC100 does not have enough of a flat to attach the latch to the side of the unit. I'm you'd have to weld a stainless bracket to the side of the unit, but man it would be awfully nice to have. I might see if I guy one from CS and use my resources at work to build a bracket for it.

Superior smokers has a similar door that is flush to the edge of the smoker. The FEC100 door isn't flush to the edge of the smoker, but I think that a similar design would work on the FEC100.

Explosion hazard?!?! I wonder why the 100 would be any different than the 300/500/750 in terms of an explosion hazard. Anyone have any insight?

I don't have any information to back this up but I do have three FEC 100's and I think a single latch would cause a seal problem because the door is more rectangular than square like the 500 and 750's.
I think heat might cause the door to flex and a single latch point would let the door leak.

With a 5' exhaust on the side, I don't think explosion is a issue.

I've seen this before but can's seem to find it now so hopefully someone from Cookshack will answer. Seems like it had something to do with safety but I don't remember for sure.

I will be honest, I wish my FEC 500 had the latches like my 100. THe slam latches loosens up all the time and leaks smoke out of the firebox.

I tried loctite on the screw. It is easier to close, but I like the secure, gasket compressing closer in the 100.
