Hi guys and gals. I just ordered the FEC120 and I was just curious on a couple things
1. I do not have a covered patio, garage, or any type of lean-to to keep this smoker covered. Will this effect it in any way lets say if a rain storm blows through or if its snowing on it?
2. There is not a dedicated cover for it yet made by CS so what are people using to cover theirs up?
3. When running maverick temp probes inside the unit where and how do you do it? Through the door, through the exhasut, how?

They do not make covers but look at my post about fec 120 covers i also attached a pic

Good luck you will love the unit i do..

Congrats on the purchase Splintermc! I was like a fat kid in a candy store waiting for my special order to come in. Bet your stoked!!
the exhaust is vertical - without a cover, snow and rain will get into them and could possibly pool and just drip out via the drain pan...wouldn't be an ideal setup.
I run the temp probe through the door, no problem.
Im actually very truly worried i made a mistake with this purchase. I keep having a guy tell me the controller has issues in the cold and that it will not work properly outside. I am also worried that since i do not have a roof water will get in the exhast and mess stuff up. I am stoked but at the same time concerned about the fan on top and the weather. Some one make me feel better and tell me they keep theirs outside and have no issues what so ever
Hi Splinter,

I understand your concern with moisture. I don't think that the FEC120 will fair any worse than any other cooker with electronics. In you pm you stated that any type of structure is not allowed at your residence. So,If I were forced to store mine in the elements, I would obtain a piece of metal or Lexan roofing cut a little larger than the hopper and cooker dimensions framed with a wood perimeter. I would then wrap the entire unit with a well made heavy duty tarp that is well secured. Good luck we'll all figure out a solution to keep her dry.

I had problems with my FEC-120's controller and cold since I got it but normally I could just put my hand on the pad for 30 seconds and that would be enough to get it going.
But I have been using it allot more this winter and on my last two cooks I had to hold a hot water bottle on it for 5+ minutes so I decided to email customer service. They offered to next day air me a new board that would fix the issue, I told them to save some money and send it ground. It arrived 4-5 days later with a pre-paid UPS label for the return.
Worked perfect at 6º the other day.
Great customer service as usual!
