As I understand it....the auger in the smoke position, used for calibration too, runs 15 seconds on then 55 seconds off as you stated. When you turn the unit on the auger and the ignitor come on for 4 minutes then the auger continues if the control is set to higher than smoke. It keeps feeding at a constant and the same rate as smoke until the temperature is achieved then it goes into the smoke mode. It comes back on at the constant rate again when the temperature drops down to ? I don't know the differential of temperatures for the auger to start or stop. I would assume it stops at the set point.

I often wondered if the auger tapers its speed as it approaches the set point or the auger stops just before the set point or at what point. I think that is what you are wondering too. But somehow I doubt it is that sophisicated that it tapers or changes speed. I have watched it a lot with just enough pellets to see the auger and kept me feeding it enough to keep it happy keeping the auger exposed. It looks constant.

But ya never know! Perhaps Eddy will confirm or add to this post.

I'm not sure, Tom. Why don't you vacuum seal one of those birds and ship it my way and I'll let you know after I've given it a taste test. Wink

Mine does the same thing. I'd like to be able to close my garage door and do a cook at night, venting the unit to the outside with pipe, but with it leaking thru the top around the door I don't think I'd like the smoke smell permeating my garage and car.

Smokingman.....

How about lets take it a step further. Let's install a receptical to plug in the probes and, program the controller to stop or change temp when the meat gets to temp. Just like some microwave, or ovens, I think. The non FE Cook Shacks do have timers that can either turn off the oven or go to another temp such as for holding at 140*F!

I think a problem will be the smoke will damage the plug and/or receptical inside the smoke chamber! Of course you could hard wire the probes inside like their probe is now but on a cable. How would you wash them?

Actually I think CS is working on this idea.

So here is your chance to beat them to it and sell them your patent or you build a retrofit and I'll buy one! I'm waitinnng!
