I think I may have figured out my flame out problem. I was smoking some jerky the other night and programmer the smoker for 5 hours. Unfortunately I needed more time than this but the smoker had already dropped to the holding stage. I programmed it for 180 and hit the start button. When I came back out the smoker was at 90 degrees and the pot was full of unburned pellets. I think that when I restarted the smoker the new pellets smothered the small flame in the holding stage. Does anyone agree with this theory? Furthermore how do I keep this from happening again?

BTW I used Smokin Okies Turkey 101 method and my bird was
AWESOME! 15 pounder was very juicy and brined perfectly at 36 hours.

In a perfect FEC world, you shouldn't have any unburnt pellets while the smoker is on. Whatever caused the firepot to stop burning pellets is the source of your problem.

Sorry, due to the 20" of snow I just woke up to, I don't have time to go back and read through your previous posts. Call Cookshack customer service this morning and walk them through the problem. I'm sure they'll get you back on track.

I talked to Tony from Cookshack and we figured out my problem. When I went down to the hold mode I reset my temp and hit start. The auger was giving it a heavy feed and smothering the fire. The short of it...increase my hold temp not the regular temp after I am in the hold stage and don't hit start or reset mid-cycle.
That is what I thought too but Tony said if the thermometer reads more than 140 degrees that it won't re-light and the fire box will be smothered with pellets due to the "heavy feed". That is what I did....reset the time and temp in the cook cycle and that was my problem. He said I should have just increased my hold temp.
