Amen.
I experienced the same problem with my Amerique. It's moisture in the smoker causing a slight leak that trips the GFI. If the Amerique sits to long, some moisture builds up inside. My solution:
1. Run an extension cord plugged to a NON-GFI outlet.
2. Set smoker to max TEMP (300).
3. Run for 30 mins.
4. Let cool down.
5. Move back to your outside GFI.
6. Smoke away.
I have had my Amerique since 2006 and this works every time.

I LIKE that solution. Thanks!
I haven't has that problem, but my AQ lives in an unheated garage when I'm not using it, and it's pretty dry in there.
Folks, I am happy to report my GFCI issue is now resolved. There is nothing wrong with my SM045. The electrician installed a new 20amp GFCI and disconnected it from what was a ganged circuit in my master bath. Tested and worked perfectly. Problem solved!
