I've been looking all over the internet for a great deal on a portable generator that uses inverter technology so it's quiet. I think I found THE place.

Their online site only showed Yamaha generators but I called him (Bob)to ask a question and found that he also has Honda generators.

Bottom line, here are the deals he offered for new in the box Honda generators:
Honda EU2000i for $870, free shipping, $5 insurance & no tax if you're not in IL.
Honda EU3000i for $1699, free shipping, $20 insurance & no tax if you're not in IL.

I went with 2 EU2000i's because I figure it would easier to find room for two of these smaller units somewhere on my trailer instead of the one larger EU3000i. Plus I'll have the flexibility to use one generator for small needs and can parallel the two together for larger needs and get a little more punch than with the EU3000i by itself. I didn't buy the parallel cable from him 'cause his was $250 and I've found some online for less than half the cost that still give you the full 30amps.

Send a reply with contact information of some sort if you want more information.

Happy Q'n!

Ed we looked at that same problem. We first bought the EU2000 but it will not run the A/C unit on the top of the trailer. So we looked at the set up like you got but by the time you buy another EU2000 and the plug kit for alittle more you can get the EU3000 which is what we ended up doing. I know Smokin Okie found one that was close to the Honda but was about half the price. He said he likes it alot.

Craig,
My concern was space for the EU3000i on my trailer. I'm still a newbie to the competition world and take way too much equipment. You know the old saying 'everything but the kitchen sink', well I take 'everything including 3 laundry sinks'!!! I imagine I'll be the same on the first few catering gigs. I figure I can tuck two EU2000i's somewhere on my trailer better than one EU3000i.

Your right the two EU2000i's cost a little more than the one EU3000i plus the cost of the parallel cable makes it cost a little more. I was just looking at the space issue. Additionally I can move a 47lb generator much easier than a 130lb generator. Another consideration was the extra 400w that I get with the two EU2000i's hooked up in parallel.

Regarding the generator Smokin Okie is using I think you might be talking about Kipor generators. I've also seen them for almost half the price of the Honda's. I just wasn't sure about their quality since I could only find a few reviews on the internet. Plus when I can get a new Honda for $279 off their regular retail price with no shipping or tax and, more importantly, get their proven dependability backed by their repair network, I just couldn't take the chance on the Kipor.

By the way, I've visited your website in the past and really like your look. I hope to have something as professional looking as your website some day.

Thanks!
Ed
I saw the Kipor at Harbor Freight. It's very similar to the Honda. I read a view email threads on an RV site and some guys there regretted buying them as they had quality issues and problems finding any parts. I bought a 2000 for emergency use primarily. I stayed with the Honda as its quality is great and parts availability is also good.
The first year Kipors was out, that was true, but I searched also before I bought one last year and found almost 100% satisfaction.

It's good, it's quite and I got it for about $800 (or so) as it was on sale at a local RV. Basically a knockoff of the Honda 3000. It's super quiet.

My only complaint would be changing the oil (my arthritic fingers hate tight spaces) but other than that, the cost savings was important to me at the time. I was outfitting the trailer and spent a LOT on fitting it out so saving a little was important.

Skippyp,
Give Alamia in Denver a look. Last time I was pricing generators they had the best deal. Give them a call as they do not have the generators on their web site. 1-800-861-0029

One other place to check is Mayberrys (mayberrys.com). Both of those sites had really good prices last time I checked with free shipping.

SkippyPBBQ, The website where I purchased my two new Honda 2000w generators for $870 each including shipping is http://stores.ebay.com/Wise-Generators-and-Power-Equipment

They only advertise Yamaha generators online but they also carry Honda if you call them. Their price for the for the Yamaha 3000 with boost is also $1899 with free shipping even though it says $20.

Until I called them I thought I was going to purchase a Yamaha. I asked it two of the same Yamaha 3000 units could be connected and they cannot. They said Honda's could and they have them in stock.

I purchased two 2000's and have only used one. I received my new FEC500 last week and used it for two catering jobs this weekend. The single 2000w Honda barely knows the FEC500 is there!
thanks ed. I'm still waffling on the yamaha vs honda. I'm not especially fond of lugging 2 generators around, filling 2 gas tanks, and basically having twice the theft problem. Around here there are those who have no problem walking up your driveway to 'borrow' your cheapa$$ lawnmower you left out overnight. Imagine if they know that locked trailer has a generator in it.
We're looking at upgrading to an enclosed trailer or toy-hauler for cooking. I like the boost for the extra umph (which I realize 2x2000s gives you).
still considering.

BTW, I do think the yamaha was just a hair quieter than the honda, but not enough to make any difference in purchasing. The ergonomics of the yamaha were better- I had to bend all the way over to see the honda controls and plugs- at 6'5" I hate bending over. On the other hand the honda looked like a more solid machine.
Skippyp, The reasons that I chose to go with two 2000watt generators instead of one 3000watt generator are: 1) I can move the 2000watt model by myself but the 3000watt would take another person; 2) During transport I can store the two smaller generators on my trailer better than the single larger generator; and 3) I could split generator use, one for the cooker and the other for all other equipment. I actually changed my order three times before I finally settled on this configuration. Good luck on making your decision. I don't believe you'll go wrong with either the Yamaha or Honda.
