How much wood | Cookshack

In the AQ instructions it says not to put more than 6 oz of wood in the wood box. In the Cookshack book, Get Smokin', it says on page 5 (Cookshack Old-Fashioned Pit Barbecued Brisket) to load the wood box with 16 oz of hickory. Is this a misprint?

Welcome to the Forum, and congrats on your AQ.

Your best bet is to read and reread the 101's and follow those instructions cuz they are the tried and tested methods of smoking.

16 oz would have to be a misprint.

Rule of thumb:
Chicken/Poultry = 1-2 oz
Ribs 2-3 oz
Pork butt or brisket = 4 oz

A little wood goes a long way.

Have to agree,, I couldn't imagine using 16 oz smoking anything. I like a heavy smoke flavor and use about 3 oz on startup fer Brisket, give it 2 hours and add another 3 oz. I am done that's it fer the rest of the smoke.
